Applications Now Being Accepted!

With summer upon us, we are starting our seasonal junior volunteer program. We are looking for 4 dedicated volunteers between 14-15. They will work each Saturday from 10-3 and will be responsible for a certain number of the pets. Tasks will include general caregiving, grooming and socialization to help boost the egos of some of the shier dogs. (Caregiving is similar to the FFA in that you will build a relationship with specific dogs. However, the dogs will stay with us and are for adoption). We use cedar extensively and are outside, this combined with the caregiving for the dogs means that youth with allergies are not well suited. We also ask that the volunteer be very comfortable with all sizes and types of dogs (no fear of dogs) because there will be groups of different types of dogs out  running on 2 acres. Also recommended that volunteers be energetic or willing to find ways to engage the dogs in running and play. The program is limited to 4 dedicated volunteers. Their companionship, love and loyalty can improve quality of life and help ensure safety for many. We also see the value that the older generation of S.T.A.A.R. dogs can play in this valuable realtionship.

In light of that we would like to introduce our new Seniors for Seniors program Anyone over 65 who adopts a S.T.A.A.R. dog over 6 years old, will receive the following adoption package:

  • 50% off the adoption fee
  • free microchip implant and registration
  • if you are even unable to care for the dog they will be returned to S.T.A.A.R.

We hope that this program will encourage people to consider the value of an older dog in their lives and we can find some special homes for some special dogs.

While you are gathered with your loved ones we hope that you will take a moment to remember all the wonderful STAAR dogs.

While they haven’t found their “Forever Homes” they are still lucky enough to be well loved out at the ranch! We hope that you will make a special donation at this time of the year to guarantee the love and care of the animals throughout the year.

Also, we wanted to send out a reminder of all the toxins around your house that you will want to watch out for especially this time of year.

  • Poinsettas, while pretty, are poisonous to both dogs and cats.
  • Tinsel can be ingested by dogs and can be fatal, opt for a non-tinseled tree.
  • Don’t put aspirin in the tree water as it is also toxic to your pets.
  • Don’t let the dogs have chocolate for the holidays it is poisonous to them!

Other than that, make sure to buy them lots of healthy treats, toys and supplies and smother them in extra love as this busy time of year can often be both exciting and disorienting for them!
