We are so happy to have so many supporters who are interested in (or already do) making regular payments. We have now updated our donation system to accept these payments. Just follow this link, you will see an option on the right side that says “repeat payments” - select that option to chose how frequently you would like to make the payments.
Keep in mind that if you make recurring payments with your awards credit card, you’ll be collecting points or miles for your donation.
Thank you for your support!

S.T.A.A.R. recognizes the value that pets play in the lives of our older generation. Their companionship, love and loyalty can improve quality of life and help ensure safety for many. We also see the value that the older generation of S.T.A.A.R. dogs can play in this valuable realtionship.
In light of that we would like to introduce our new Seniors for Seniors program Anyone over 65 who adopts a S.T.A.A.R. dog over 6 years old, will receive the following adoption package:
- 50% off the adoption fee
- free microchip implant and registration
- if you are even unable to care for the dog they will be returned to S.T.A.A.R.
We hope that this program will encourage people to consider the value of an older dog in their lives and we can find some special homes for some special dogs.

We hope everyone is getting ready for a warm and wonderful holiday filled with cheer. While you are gathered with your loved ones we hope that you will take a moment to remember all the wonderful STAAR dogs.
While they haven’t found their “Forever Homes” they are still lucky enough to be well loved out at the ranch! We hope that you will make a special donation at this time of the year to guarantee the love and care of the animals throughout the year.
Also, we wanted to send out a reminder of all the toxins around your house that you will want to watch out for especially this time of year.
- Poinsettas, while pretty, are poisonous to both dogs and cats.
- Tinsel can be ingested by dogs and can be fatal, opt for a non-tinseled tree.
- Don’t put aspirin in the tree water as it is also toxic to your pets.
- Don’t let the dogs have chocolate for the holidays it is poisonous to them!
Other than that, make sure to buy them lots of healthy treats, toys and supplies and smother them in extra love as this busy time of year can often be both exciting and disorienting for them!
We didn’t get the worst of the storm - but the heavy wind and rain caused quite a bit of damage at the ranch.
Thanks to a generous grant from Petfinder.com, we got fixes in place right away!

Some of the damage to the barn.

New clear siding let more light in!

Some of our volunteers made a S.T.A.A.R. dream come true! We had long wanted to create a structure that would provide a different kind of entertainment for the dogs and dreamed of havig a play structure with tunnels and ramps and slides. Our great S.T.A.A.R. Volunteers made that dream come true!
You can see loads of photos and videos (!) of the S.T.A.A.R. dogs enjoying the activity center in the Activity Center Gallery

Many thanks to the STAAR @ Woodlake group for hosting their 1st Annual Fundraiser in support of STAAR!
The goal of the fundraiser was to raise money for the ‘Brownie Fund’.
It included live music from Sugar Bayou, a Folk & Blue Grass band, some fabulous door prizes, food and cocktails!
