Feb. 14, 2002 - Wed really forgotten how much fun a puppy is. Lily is a real fireball! We just love her!! She is smart, independent, affectionate, playful and absolutely adorable. She has only two speeds stop and 100% go. After only a few days, she seems very happy in her new home. She is very fond of Maggie (9 yr old lab), although the feeling is not yet mutual. Lily alternates between terrorizing Maggie and charming her. Each day Maggie and Lily get along a little better. It only took a couple days before Lily figured out how to climb the steps. For an 8 lb puppy, she is incredibly strong. She gets hold of large rugs, toys, etc. and drags the things around. She is a very happy, social dog. She likes tummy rubs, being held and snuggling of all kinds. You must have given her lots of love and attention. We really admire how careful you are to place every dog in a safe and loving home. We are delighted to have Lily in our family, and we are looking forward to sharing lots of love and good times with her. Sincere thanks.

Nov. 11, 2001 - I have had my 6 yr old great nephew for the week. We are taking pictures and if/WHEN I ever get them developed I will send them to you. Dustin's new name is Misu. It is Lakota for 'rippling water'. He already answers to it. He sleeps by me every night and has never even offered to get up and wonder during the night. He has been here almost a week now and has yet to have an accident in the house. Misu is much more intelligent than we suspected and learns remarkably fast! This little bundle of affection has become my personal shadow. If I stop walking too quickly or turn too quickly it is likely I will trip over him. He is quiet but is just now showing signs of protection for the property. He has the cutest little growl and occasional bark. And he tries so hard to reason with the cats but they constantly occupy his blanket on the porch and refuse to relinquish the territory no matter how much Misu tries to intimidate them! He wants to play and they want to be left alone. How comical they are. Misu and my nephew have become good friends. Ellie likes my nephew but she doesn't like to be held. Misu, however, revels in the attention and never misses a chance to give a little kiss! And what boy doesn't love to kiss his best friend? Little Misu lies quietly beside Jesse when they are watching a movie but always keeps one eye on me. Misu has been a joyous addition to our family. We can tell by his every day actions that he has received love and gentleness from you for the short 12 weeks of his young life. Your special gift shows through with these animals and you are surely blessed for your giving. And what you receive in return is also a gift.
I admire you for the love and the dedication you have for the lives of these animals. I will keep you updated as Misu grows. It is a joy to see the process!
Thanks again for trusting us with this little one. Brenda and John

Lilley, now BABY

Dear STAAR,
Back in April of 2000, we adopted one of your dogs, LILLEY. She is a mix of Shelty & ??? The only thing we can say is, no matter what she was, to us she is one of the best things we have ever done for ourselves. She was not a puppy which made her ideal to fit into our busy lifestyle. She goes wherever we go, and she is so well behaved, we have people constantly asking where she came from and how to get one like her. Our answer is always, STAAR, one of the best rescue organizations around. As for her behavior, that only comes from a lot of love and attention lavished on her, and of course time to let her bond with us. Our vet says she is one of the healthiest dogs he has ever seen from a rescue organization.
But the best is that she is our "baby" and we have been blessed to have her in our lives, and to be a part of hers. Yes, we did change her name to BABY as that fit her personality so well.
THANKS,
LEE & LLOYD HUNN

Dear (S.T.A.A.R),
Words can't express our great appreciation for all of your help with the adoption of our newest family member Betsy. Betsy is truly all you said she would be and more. I was leery of adopting an older Rottweiler but your guidance and judgement was right on the money. Betsy fits our home like a glove.
My 5 year old daughter and her lay all over each other and are the best of friends. Her first visit to the vet (to get a supply of heartguard for next month) was exceptional. Our vet was very pleased with your organization when she confirmed Betsy was parasite free (as you said she was).
Your love for these lost animals is unconditional and it shows. I would recommend S.T.A.A.R. to anyone looking for a new family member. Your experience with these animals and superb screening of applicants helps to ensure each animal goes to an appropriate and loving home. If only everyone loved there pets as you love these animals.
Thank you again and God Bless you.
